More value from raw material by fractioning

New value chains can be created by wood fractionation.
Pine logs with three different growth rates were fractionated and pulped. Fractionation of chips was done using so called dense media fractionation method. The mechanical pulping trials revealed that density is very important raw material parameter in terms of energy consumption and pulp quality. The energy consumption difference of the fractions was 47 %. Paper samples made from pulp were also analysed.
