Recycled waste wood is a promising alternative raw material for lignocellulosic biorefinery. Despite its heterogeneous nature, the recycled wood was efficiently pretreated for enzyme hydrolysis by Alkaline oxidation (AlkOx) technology developed by VTT, producing well hydrolysable cellulosic fiber fraction for bioethanol production. Lignin based hot-melt adhesives and hemicellulose based surfactants were also produced from side streams in the ERA-Net Wood Wisdom-Net3 project ReWoBioRef - Mobilisation and utilisation of Recycled Wood for lignocellulosic BioRefinery processes.
